The Surface Unit Receptacle is an OEM part for GE cooktops and ranges. It is designed to hold and connect the surface heating element to the cooktop’s electrical system, providing a secure and reliable connection for the element to receive power.

Causes of a bad surface unit receptacle can include wear and tear from regular use, exposure to high temperatures, or electrical arcing. A malfunctioning receptacle can lead to improper heating element performance or electrical hazards.

Symptoms of a bad surface unit receptacle include:

  • The heating element not heating up or only heating intermittently
  • Visible damage or burn marks on the receptacle
  • Sparks or electrical arcing when the element is in use
  • The heating element feeling loose or not fitting securely in the receptacle

This GE replacement part is also compatible with Hotpoint, RCA, and some Kenmore models.

For the large 8-inch surface element order WB30M2. For the small 6-inch surface element order WB30M1.

Larry for Model Number GE electric range, but I can't locate the model #

Hi, I don't know how to attach the receptacle to the range lid. My range does not have a lip. Rather, the old receptacle screws directly to the lid. Here is the old range: https://www.dropbox.com/sc/is5ln2jx8v49ns8/SIqfsjm-40 Here is the old receptacle: https://www.dropbox.com/sc/73bad0h04utsmbo/AfpzZPy0nO And here is the lid. Note there is no lip: https://www.dropbox.com/sc/r3mlc62b61ai1vg/NcMvCnOZbu Please advise and many thanks, Larry

Hello Larry. The new receptacle comes with a new bracket for the screw to secure into the lip of the range top. These are not hard to replace.

Hello Vickie, since you already replaced the element, let's assume it is good until we check the other possibilities. Take a look at the wiring to the elements and make sure you have a good connection and nothing is burned or broken. If that all checks out, check your receptacle WB17X5051 to see if it needs to be replaced. Usually when a receptacle fails, the contacts will be burned or broken. If they are good, it's likely the infinite switch WB21X36771. Hope this helps!

Service Guy, no it's not going to be very easy, You'll need to lift the unit out of the counter opening, and support it with a couple of 1X2 in. wood strips. remove the frame, elements and element receptacle screws, then remove the perimeter screws holding the cooktop to the burner box, then lift the cook top up and off the frame. Then you can remove prt #2 and !0 and access the switches and wiring.

Hello Linda, There are only a couple of ways that the main tops are ever attached. Some have three or four screws going up into the front edge of the main top that are visible only when you open the door. Some have spring clips which have to be depressed with a paint scraper as slight pressure is applied upward on each side respectively. Others are only setting there. This one either has three or four screws above the door or is just stuck down from years of grease build-up.

Hello Biff. Yes, the receptacle WB17X5113 should work on the cooktop, if the eyes have the round terminals on the end. Hope this helps.
