The Timer is an OEM part for GE electric dryers. It serves as the critical control module that monitors and regulates dryer cycle times during functions like regular, wrinkle guard, fluff and more.

Causes of a bad timer include failure of internal electronic components or wiring connections due to prolonged exposure to heat and vibration inside the dryer cylinder. Mechanical wear of buttons or dials used to program cycles may occur as well over time.

Symptoms of a bad Timer include:

  • Inability to set or change desired drying times accurately
  • Premature stopping or starting of cycles without user input
  • Faulty time or status display windows during use
  • Complete shut down requiring manual override or reset

The GE OEM part is also compatible with Hotpoint, RCA and select Kenmore models.

Questions & Answers

For Ge Timer (Part Number: OEM17951589)

Hello Jonthan, thank you for contacting APP, If the washer is running through cycles and completing them automatically once the cycle is started, but the Cycle Selector is not advancing, this is normal operation. The Washer's Cycle Selector does not move as the cycle advances, as per the manufacturer. If the washer is no longer advancing through cycles automatically but can be manually advanced, I suspect the issue is with the Washer Control Board WH12X10586.

Cheryl, For this issue, if the unit will spin on the drain and spin then this will be a faulty timer.

Had a recent repair done on the GE combo unit recently by GE were the whole thing had to he torn apart. When I opened the unit up to replace the part I purchased from you I found one of the wires on the dryer timer control was not connected just floating around in there. Can't imagine that came from the factory that way. So there are 2 empty blades on the control. One marked A and the other F. The floating wire looks like 16awg and is orange. Looks like it may have been attached to the A terminal. Can you give me any help to figure out were that wire was attached to the dryer timer control or was it just floating around in there. Seems like a hazard if it was.

Jazgeneral1985, We will need to have the model number of your dryer to be able to assist properly but it most likely will not be the timer but would be an issue with the belt switch or door switch but the model number is needed to properly assist.

S, the timer 306545 would be used with the model provided. Unfortunately, this part has been discontinued and is no longer available. As this is the case, we would not be able to recommend an alternative.

Ron, as the dryer does not stop running or heating, the failure would most likely be a timer WE04X22654 failure if the push to start switch WE4M416 does not have continuity when it is not being pressed. If the push to start switch has continuity when it is not being pressed, the switch has failed and would need to be replaced.

My question is similar to one posted on your site "My GE spacesaver washer recently will stop after the wash cycle. I would have to go and repeatedly press the start/pause button sometimes once sometime multiple times for the rinse cycle to start. Now recently once I do get it to the the final spin cycle it wont stop on its own until I manually pause/stop it." Additionally, it will not switch to the spin at the end to get the rest of the water out. It just keeps trying to drain without turning off.

Mack, You will want to check to see if the dryer heater element is getting 240 Vac to it. This issue sounds like the heater may be the cause of only getting warm.
