The Compressor is an OEM part for LG refrigerators. As the primary component that circulates refrigerant to chill the refrigerator and freezer compartments, it is crucial for proper cooling operation. The compressor works with the condenser fan and evaporator coil to regulate temperatures inside the refrigerator.

Causes of a faulty compressor can include gradual breakdown of motor windings, loss of refrigerant pressure over time, or failure of electrical components vital to operation.

Symptoms of a bad compressor are:

  • Elevated fridge/freezer temperatures unable to be maintained
  • Frost patterns indicating poor or insufficient cooling
  • Abnormal vibrations or sounds upon compressor cycling
  • Error codes displayed regarding cooling performance

It is also compatible with Sears/Kenmore refrigerator models.

Hello Stephen, thank you for contacting APP, The service manual for this style of unit states that the screws in the compressor base will need to be loosened. If this does not allow for the removal of the overload protector, or if you are uncomfortable with this process, I recommend contacting an appliance servicing company.

Beverly, You will want to check to make sure that there is power to the compressor. If there is not then this will most likely be a control board issue.

Tin, This unit uses an inverter board to start the compressor so the overload should not be needed. If you did not do the software update then this is the course of action you will want to take.

Damian for Model Number LFX28968ST01

I had several compressors go out on this model. The last time they said the compressor and board needed to be replaced because the board was making the compressor fail. LG gave me the following part numbers. My question is with the different board that is currently installed do I still need to update the new board software? New board and compressor part# from LG: EBR74796444 TCA38151706 Both are different from what is on the fridge currently. I don’t want to spend another $100 plus on software if I don’t need it. Thank you in advance, Damian

I would assume that the board was replaced to update the software. But there is no way of knowing if the software is up to date without connecting the reader/updater.
