The Door Hinge Cable Assembly is an OEM replacement part for LG dishwashers. It consists of cables and springs that connect the dishwasher door to the tub, allowing controlled door opening and closing movements. The cable assembly allows for smooth opening and closing of the dishwasher door while providing counterbalancing weight to offset the door weight. It has 2-inch by 3/4-inch plastic pieces and an 8-inch rope section.

Causes of hinge cable failure stem from repeated opening/closing actions gradually fatiguing the cable material combined with potential corrosion developing on springs over years of use cycles.

Symptoms of a damaged hinge cable assembly include:

  • Difficulty opening or closing the dishwasher door smoothly
  • Door drifting open or slamming shut without control
  • Visible slack, fraying or kinking in cable sections
  • Rattling or grinding noises during door movements

This genuine LG assembly is also compatible with select Sears/Kenmore dishwasher models as well.

Cordell, I believe your unit uses a spring instead of a cable 4970ED4004D You can always uninstall the unit and pull it out 6 to 8 inches and visually check. If it does use a cable then the one you searched will work.

Hello Wanda. Sorry, there is no illustrated instruction. You will need to uninstall the dishwasher from the cabinet. Once you pull out the dishwasher, you will see the cables on the side of the unit. You pull down on the spring and remove the cable. The hook the new cable to the spring first through the end of the cable with the hole and run the cable under the roller wheel up to the hinge and hook the slot end to the hinge. You will need to stretch the spring to hook it up to the unit. Reinstall the dishwasher into the cabinets. These are the only instructions we have at this time. Thank you.

Rachael, Yes you would need to get 2 of the hinge cables for the unit. Unfortunately there is not a video for replacing, but you would need to pull the unit out and gain access to the sides of the unit. You will have access to the cables and they will just connect to the hinge on the door and to the spring on the unit.
