This is a mechanical cycle timer that controls the length and sequence of dryer cycles, restoring proper timing and cycle selection for machines with a worn or faulty timer mechanism. What it does:

  • Advances dryer cycles and routes power to the appropriate components during each cycle stage
  • Commonly used when the dryer won't advance through cycles or stops mid-cycle
  • Resolves symptoms such as no timer movement, no click when changing settings, or inconsistent cycle lengths
  • Works as the user control for selecting timed or automatic drying functions
What's included: One complete mechanical timer assembly. Install notes:
  • Disconnect power before beginning any service to avoid shock hazard
  • Installation typically requires removing the control panel and securing the timer with standard hand tools
  • Handle internal components carefully; avoid bending terminals or contaminating contacts
  • Test the dryer through a short cycle after installation.

Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Timer (Mechanical Cycle Timer) (Part Number: OEM18072543)

Steve, a quick easy check first, Put the timer dial in the air fluff selection 9 5 or 10 minutes will be sufficient) and start the dryer, if the timer advances and shuts off, the timer would not be the issue. You would then want to disconnect the exhaust vent tubing, and clear all the lint, and possible kinks and clogs, remove the lint filter and remove any debris or lint in the housing. Then run the dryer with the vent disconnected on one of the drying cycles. The way your dryer operates and timer advances, is based on drum temperature, if the temperature is not correct, due to a clogged vent or air flow issue, the timer won't advance. There are other possibilities, but start there.
