Jim May 24, 2012 for Model Number ed2phexmt00 I had an electrical burning smell coming from the refrigerator and now only the fan is running in the freezer. This happened about a year ago and I had a repairman come out and he replaced what I believe is called a "starter device". I have removed the part that he replaced and examined it. It does not have the burn marks like the old one did and when I shake it there is no rattle as there was when the old one went bad. I suspect that he may have put a used one in and I really dont care, I just want to repair this myself but I dont want to order the "starter device" if that is not the problem. Any suggestions? BTW, I am electronically inclined (I work on computers and copiers)however my knowledge of refrigerators is limited.
1 Answer Hello Jim. You can test the start device WP2188831 for continuity. It should read closed across each terminal point. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Edd June 23, 2011 for Model Number whirlpool ED2CHQXKT04 Hello, My entire fridge unit does not cool anymore. The bottom coils are clean, the condenser fan comes on. I noticed a clicking sound from the compressor which I have not noticed before. I read an article and it said that the starter device might be the source of the problem.
