The Planetary Assembly is an OEM part for Whirlpool stand mixers. This component is responsible for holding the mixer attachments and rotating them around the bowl, ensuring thorough and even mixing of ingredients.

Symptoms of a bad planetary assembly include:

  • Unusual noises during operation
  • Attachments not rotating properly or wobbling
  • Inconsistent mixing or ingredients not being fully incorporated
  • The mixer head not locking into place

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

However, based on the information provided, it sounds like the retaining pin WP9707223 in the gearcase housing may have broken. The housing would need to be disassembled and the worm gear follower W11086780 section inspected for any indications that the pin either broke or slipped out.

David, you may want to check the center shaft o-ring [WP67500-55] for damage and wear as this would be the most likely cause. The planetary would only be the housing without the gears and such in this case. The grease that would be needed is part number [W11200218] and it would be recommended to clear out the old grease when applying the new grease.
