For Whirlpool Dishwasher Interconnect Board (Part Number: OEM18038790)

1 Answer

Mike, This issue would most likely be caused by a faulty overlay which is part number W10077791. You will want to check the ribbon harness connection to make sure that it does not have corrosion or loose connection as this part has been discontinued with no suitable replacement available.

Hello Gary. Make sure the wiring is good inside the door and if so, you will need to replace the dispenser on the unit.

Problem began with several control panel lights dimly illuminated and timer LED showing what looked like a dimly lit eleven (11). However, it looked like only half of each "1" was lit. The dishwasher would not run except it would empty itself when the Cancel button was pushed. The lights for the various cycles would not turn on when pushed. Opened the unit and wiped the ribbon cable at the interconnect clean, jumped the switch and tried turning on the unit. The lights would come on for the cycles but only the "Normal" cycle seemed to actually start. Reassembled everything and ran the "normal" cycle. It seemed to take longer than usual and I opened the door to check the dishes. It was running okay. However, when I closed the door it would not continue. Cancelled the cycle. Now the four cycles lights come on when pushed like it is going to run properly (However, the Heated Dry light won't go off when pushed), but the "Start" button doesn't illuminate or get things going. Does this sound like a control panel, control board, interconnect or some other issue? Thank you

Joe, Based on the information it appears that the control board will be the cause of the unit not operating properly.

Bob, The most likely cause for the dishwasher to be inoperative would be either a faulty control board or a control panel. If you access the tech sheet which is located behind the kickplate of the unit, there should be a key test for the control panel. If the panel test ok then the control board would be the issue.

Dishwasher seems to be starting cycle correctly by filling with water (I open it at start and there is water in the bottom) but it them begins to hum loudly (abnormal) and when I open the dw, there is no water. Initially, I thought it might be the water inlet valve was not allowing enough water in so I replaced that, but the problem remains. When the sani-rinse or water heater is selected, the element gets very hot because there is no water. It just sits there and humms loudly. When I add water with sink sprayer nozzel, it then seems to be fine (circulation pump doesn't seem to be the problem). Sometimes I have to add water only once and other times I have to add water multiple times. I broke the plastic door latch trying to "see" what is happening with the door open... Obviously a novice at DYI repairs! :(

Jeffery, First check and make sure the drain hose loop is high enough to keep the dishwasher from draining or syphoning the water out of the tub. If the fill valve is humming, this would indicate a lack of water pressure and flow to the new valve or a faulty new fill valve.
