This Charcoal Filter is an OEM replacement part for Whirlpool microwaves. The charcoal filter is responsible for improving the air quality in the kitchen by removing impurities and odors from the air. It is used to remove smoke, grease, and cooking odors as it is drawn up through the vent fan. By trapping these particles, the filter helps maintain cleaner air in the kitchen and prevents odors from recirculating and affecting the taste and smell of your food.

Causes of a bad Charcoal Filter include saturation from absorbing smoke and odors over time, accumulation of grease and particles that clog the filter, leading to decreased effectiveness, and physical damage that compromises its ability to filter air properly.

Symptoms of a bad Charcoal Filter include:

  • Persistent odors in the kitchen after cooking.
  • Smoke not being effectively vented out during microwave use.
  • Reduced airflow from the microwave's venting system.

Replacing the charcoal filter at regular intervals or when these symptoms are noticed ensures that your microwave continues to operate efficiently and keeps your kitchen air clean. This OEM Whirlpool part can also be used on Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore/Sears brand appliances.

Description- Color: metallic. Measures about 5 inches wide by 5 inches deep.

Hello Marty, Reset the filter status after replacing and/or cleaning the filters. Touch Options or Setup control to reach the “Filter Reset” sub-menu and activate reset. To reset control, dis-continue power supply to the unit for 2 minutes and power it back up. If the problem persists, the control board WPW10211457 will most likely require replacement since the EEPROM read only programming information on it is probably corrupted.
