Joyce, The most likely cause for the dispenser to stick and keep running ice or water would be the actuator switch "sticking" or the contacts are weak and not responding when the lever is relaesed. The actuator switch is part of the chute assembly in the dispenser and will need to be replaced WP13005704B.

Sam, You can test the switches to see if they are good on the chute by checking the switches for continuity when pressed. Test for the door motor switch between yellow and white and the main actuator switch is white to orange.
