1 Answer Eric, based on your post information, you're pretty much on target. The key pad circuits have started to degrade and malfunction, causing erratic circuits (like button presses) and the piezo speaker to chirp. You'll need to replace the console assembly. If your dryer model serial number start with 10 - 68 you will need part number 33002537 / 33002537, if the serial number starts with 69 or higher, you will need part number 22004445 / 22004445 . Tom M November 15, 2015 for Model Number MDE5500AYQ--Serial #625201130CJ My dryer won't start when I press the Start/Pause button on the control panel. All other buttons light up and change their numbers/settings. The only button not lighting up or working is the Start/Pause button. I sent the control panel to Appliance Repair. They tested the board and said it is in good working order. I also checked the door start/stop button and that is working fine. Do I need a new control panel or does one or both of the dryer's internal fuses need replacing? The last time the dryer worked started it had plenty of heat. My model number is MDE5500AYQ and my serial number is 625201130CJ.

If all the controls are working but the dryer just will not start then test the thermal fuse that is located on the blower housing to make sure that the fuse has continuity.
