Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Refrigerator Temperature Control Thermostat (Part Number: OEM9049782)

Hello Kevin, thank you for contacting APP,

I would first recommend double-checking the Refrigerator Compartment(RC) temps by placing a thermometer into a glass of water on the middle of the middle shelf of that section and allowing it to cool overnight, if the RC is being checked while empty it is likely that we are only checking air temperature instead of product temperature, which can be quite different, same if using an IR Temperature reader as the reflective surfaces inside of the unit can give false readings via IR. The RC being empty may also factor into this as the unit is designed to be run under load in both sections and will need to move a much greater volume of air while also attempting to maintain temperature in the Freezer Compartment(FC), which if the FC is not satisfied the unit will continuously run and eventually over-cool the RC. If not wishing to place perishable products in the RC for this testing, I would recommend spreading out a couple of cases of bottled water throughout the RC so that the unit has a load to work on in that section. If the temperature in the RC comes out +/-5°F of the set point during this testing then the unit is working as designed and just needs to be run under load. If the RC still appears to be overcooling check the FC temperature is within +/-5°F of the set point by sandwiching a thermometer between products in the FC and allowing it to settle for about 5 minutes with the door closed. If it is “too cold” in the FC there may be an issue with the FC Thermistor W10316760, if too warm there may be a sealed system or defrost issue, if the temperature in the FC is within range then there is an issue with the RC Thermistor W10316760 or the Main Control W11088499 cooling logic.

Misty,

Check the evaporator coil to make sure that it is not impacted by frost. If it is then this will be a defrotst issue and if there is not then check the evaporator fan to make sure that it is running.

Steve, the temperature control 1123394 would be the cause of failure for the refrigerator to reach temperatures as low as 24°F.

Hello MB. If you need the cold control, you will need to order W10752646. It is located in the freezer. These are not to hard to replace.

Hello Roy. Both should be set on the middle settings to maintain factory settings. Make sure the thermostat cap tube is put in the same location as you took the old one from.

Roy, It doesn't matter where the red and orange wires attach, the internal switch is a "spst"(single poll single throw) switch. Just make sure the green wire (ground wire) is installed and attached properly and you'll be fine.
