Larry November 28, 2014 for Model Number Woods Upright Freezer Completely shut down, food defrosted. No light inside either. Then started to work fine again. You have the thermostat for it. Am I correct in assuming since it did not run AND had no light inside, that it had no power and therefore must be the thermostat switch?

Jeffrey B June 06, 2014 for Model Number EV161NZRQ05 My Whirlpool upright freezer began thawing foods on the upper shelves. I emptied the freezer and unplugged it for 36 hours. I plugged it back in and temp inside is only 48 degrees.
1 Answer Jeffrey, The basic checks are at the freezer door and gasket, especially along the top seal, check the shelves, make sure there are no articles blocking the air flow on the sides or back of the shelves. Listen and feel for the evaporator fan, is it running, can you feel the air blowing towards you from the grille. is there a heavy frost or ice built up on the lower back panel, indicating a defrost issue. Remove the front grille and check and clean any debris from the grille and condenser. Read More...
Rudy December 15, 2013 for Model Number Whirlpool Upright Freezer Model EV161NZRQ05 I have to replace my thermostat with part no. 83053-002. I am ready to order the part, but I have not figures out how to deal will I assume with the sensor wire. I unscrewed the case located at the top of the right wall of the freezer and located the thermostat that has to be replaced. A wire which t I assume is the sensor goes into a white tube and goes somewhere behind the freezer wall. How do I remove and replace that part?
1 Answer Rudy, To replace the thermostat you may also need to take the lower cover of the freezer compartment off and then you would just pull the thermostat tube out of the white tube. Once you get the old one out you would push the new one in. It may be screwed down behind the lower wall. Read More...

1 Answer Brenda, If there is no power going to the compressor then most likely the cause would be either the thermostat or the defrost timer. The defrost timer would be the most likely cause. Read More...
