Roberttraut, replacing the damper assembly WPW10257451/WPW10257451 Damper, will probably solve the noise issue. The motor gear and linkage can begin to get noisy with some wear and tear from the opening and closing of the door. Check and make sure all the doors close and seal properly, the refrigerator is leveled properly. Thanks,

Curt, the freezer thermister at freezing temperatures should read around 22k ohms at 0 degrees. If the thermister is only reading 0.316 ohms the part needed will be the thermister WPW10383615 as it will cause the damper to remain closed until the freezer hits temperature.
