Daniel May 30, 2018 I have a whirlpool refrigerator model ER2mhkxpl04 That the compressor sounds like it's running but the condenser doesn't seem to be getting cold. The fan is running.. And the thermostat switch turns it off and on. But no refrigeration apparently.
1 Answer Daniel, The condenser is not supposed to get cold but the evaporator should. If the evaporator does not have frost on it with the compressor running then this will be a sealed system issue in which you will need to have service for it. Read More...
Charlie September 17, 2016 for Model Number er2chmxpq06 Is there a video that shows how to check the defrost timer in this unit ,unit would start when I adjusted the temp control now that doesn't work.
1 Answer Charlie, To check the defrost timer you would need to test the motor from White to orange to make sure that there is 120 vac. This would be the timer motor and if there is power at this point but the timer is not rotating then this would be a timer issue. If there is not power then the issue will be a thermostat that is faulty. Read More...
Jay December 01, 2012 for Model Number RT21LMXKQ06 Have discovered that my defrost timer runs VERY SLOW as much as 20 or more hours between defrosts. Timer runs perfect on the bench at room temp but when I install it ,it runs way off. Here's the kicker!!! Wired it and put it in another fridge at 38deg or so and it runs perfect. Looks like something in my unit is drawing too much juice and slowing it down. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Hope you have some idea what is wrong I'm baffled. Jay
1 Answer Hello Jay. You will need to do an amp draw test and see which part is bad on the unit and causing the issue you are having. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html Read More...
Al October 12, 2012 for Model Number RT21LMXKQ06 What now? Tested the timer according to instructions and it tested good.__the old one of course. Frig stopped running at 45deg and stayed that way till i tapped the control box a bit then it started running again till it got down to 39deg. I tested the thermostat a week ago and it tested good. O at the coldest setting--and infinity at the lowest setting when it had been the freezer for 30 min. When I installed the new timer it defrosted and water ran into the pan under the frig. No problem.Seemed to be ok till it ran for awhile. Just checked the temp and it is46.5deg. Not running--tapped the control box and it started. Where do I go from here? sorry to keep bothering you but am at a loss as to what to do. Thanks again Al
1 Answer Al, We're a bit surprised, but it sounds like the cold control WP2204605 has a"sticky" contact, or the end of the temperature bulb is not inserted into the air flow properly. When testing the cold control, it's best to use a glass of ice and water, regardless of the setting selected the circuit should remain "closed " until the temperature is reached, then the circuit will ' open" and remain open until the "cut in" temperature is reached and the circuit closes again. Using the glass of ice water will allow you to conduct the circuit test several times in a short period of time. This may allow the defect(sticky contact) to appear and be resolved. Al October 12, 2012 for Model Number RT21LMXKQ06 Have gotten mixed instructions on how to test a defrost timer--could you send instructions on the proper way to test it? Put in the new one and it is working as of now but would like to test the old one just for the experience. Frig only got down to 45deg so far but assume it is taking a break--compressor too hot perhaps? Anyway thanks for your help. OLD Al
1 Answer Hello Al. During the run cycle, the timer should read closed across the number 4 and the number 1. Then when you advance to the defrost cycle, the timer closes across 1 and 2 and 4 becomes open. 3 is the neutral for the timer. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html Read More...
Joey April 15, 2012 for Model Number ET8WTKXKB11 Freezer works fine but refrigerator is to warm. I put a different defrost timer (not the proper one) just to see if that helped the problem, it did not.The only time the fan in the freezer that blowes air into the frige part seems to come on is when I set the timer to where it defrosts. I also bipassed the door switch to see if that was the problem.
1 Answer Joey, Did you notice and heavy frost or ice on the freezer back wall, when you started. This is a classic indication of a defrost issue. Put the original or proper defrost timer WP2314156 back in the fridge. You implied, the evaportor fan motor runs, but does it run fast enough ? Once you remove the freezer back wall, and check to make sure the defrost drain is not clogged and iced over, and the fan motor is running you'll want to check and make sure the air diffuser is not blocked with ice or water, as well and that theres an even frost pattern on all the coils in the evaporator. Good Luck and Thanks Read More...
Bill December 31, 2011 for Model Number ER2CHMXPL04 Defrost cycle on too long, food and ice cream get soft.

1 Answer Hello Wdveazie. The defrost timer is located inside the control panel compartment. You will need to remove the screws holding the control panel in place inside the refrigerator. Then drop the control assembly down to access the defrost timer. Hope this helps. Read More...
