This defrost timer cam replaces the plastic cam on a mechanical defrost timer. It restores the timer's changeover between cooling and defrost, helping prevent frost buildup on the evaporator and temperature swings inside the refrigerator.

  • Mounts on the timer shaft to actuate the internal switch between cooling and defrost
  • Helps resolve issues like heavy frost on the evaporator, warm fresh food section, or a unit stuck in defrost/run
  • Corrects timer advancement problems caused by a stripped, cracked, or missing cam
  • Typically installed with the defrost timer in the control housing or rear service area
What's included: 1 defrost timer cam Install notes:
  • Disconnect power before servicing
  • Access the defrost timer and note the original cam's orientation for reference
  • Remove any retainer, pull the old cam straight off, and press the new cam fully onto the shaft without forcing
  • Reassemble, then manually advance the timer to confirm it switches modes before restoring power

Daniel, The condenser is not supposed to get cold but the evaporator should. If the evaporator does not have frost on it with the compressor running then this will be a sealed system issue in which you will need to have service for it.

Charlie, To check the defrost timer you would need to test the motor from White to orange to make sure that there is 120 vac. This would be the timer motor and if there is power at this point but the timer is not rotating then this would be a timer issue. If there is not power then the issue will be a thermostat that is faulty.

Jay for Model Number RT21LMXKQ06

Have discovered that my defrost timer runs VERY SLOW as much as 20 or more hours between defrosts. Timer runs perfect on the bench at room temp but when I install it ,it runs way off. Here's the kicker!!! Wired it and put it in another fridge at 38deg or so and it runs perfect. Looks like something in my unit is drawing too much juice and slowing it down. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Hope you have some idea what is wrong I'm baffled. Jay

Al for Model Number RT21LMXKQ06

What now? Tested the timer according to instructions and it tested good.__the old one of course. Frig stopped running at 45deg and stayed that way till i tapped the control box a bit then it started running again till it got down to 39deg. I tested the thermostat a week ago and it tested good. O at the coldest setting--and infinity at the lowest setting when it had been the freezer for 30 min. When I installed the new timer it defrosted and water ran into the pan under the frig. No problem.Seemed to be ok till it ran for awhile. Just checked the temp and it is46.5deg. Not running--tapped the control box and it started. Where do I go from here? sorry to keep bothering you but am at a loss as to what to do. Thanks again Al

Al, We're a bit surprised, but it sounds like the cold control WP2204605 has a"sticky" contact, or the end of the temperature bulb is not inserted into the air flow properly. When testing the cold control, it's best to use a glass of ice and water, regardless of the setting selected the circuit should remain "closed " until the temperature is reached, then the circuit will ' open" and remain open until the "cut in" temperature is reached and the circuit closes again. Using the glass of ice water will allow you to conduct the circuit test several times in a short period of time. This may allow the defect(sticky contact) to appear and be resolved. Thanks

Joey, Did you notice and heavy frost or ice on the freezer back wall, when you started. This is a classic indication of a defrost issue. Put the original or proper defrost timer WP2314156 back in the fridge. You implied, the evaportor fan motor runs, but does it run fast enough ? Once you remove the freezer back wall, and check to make sure the defrost drain is not clogged and iced over, and the fan motor is running you'll want to check and make sure the air diffuser is not blocked with ice or water, as well and that theres an even frost pattern on all the coils in the evaporator. Good Luck and Thanks

Hello Wdveazie. The defrost timer is located inside the control panel compartment. You will need to remove the screws holding the control panel in place inside the refrigerator. Then drop the control assembly down to access the defrost timer. Hope this helps.
