For Whirlpool Range Surface Element Infinite Switch (Part Number: OEM18042525)

Jack H for Model Number KERA807PWW00

Installed a complete wiring harness with 3 #9763760 and 1 #9763759 switches. Swapped connector for connector, one at a time and it came out fine.A black wire with heat resistant sheath was not used. It connected to a plug going to ground and went to the switches of the old harness. This seems to be a design change and is probably OK. I tested all the burners with the glass top off and each one worked perfectly. I then replaced the glass top and the trim, put the range in place and turned the circuit back on. The 3 dual burners worked perfectly but when I turned on the Right Front single burner the switch failed catastrophically, with a loud pop, flash of light and smoke. Upon disassembly the inside of the switch was completely destroyed, the source was a short inside the main power relay. Kitchen Aid forced me to pay for a new switch because I voided the warranty by touching their stuff, it seem that customers are assumed too stupid to do these things. (although they provided customer installation instructions). I would like to verify my installation BEFORE I put in the new switch. I think the old one was defective but now I have to bet my new $110 replacement on it. Please give me your opinion. Thanks, Jack Herget

Jack, If there was one loose wire then you will want to make sure that the wire is taped off or is not touching any metal as this could potentially cause the switch to burn out. As far as the switch goes, there is always the possibility that the switch was faulty and blew out. Just double check to make sure that there are no loose connections that would touch metal and correct if there is.
