1 Answer

Hello William, your dryer model does not have a moisture sensor bar assembly as it would need an electronic moisture board to work.

Randy, It is recommended to replace both of the sensor bars when replacing one. Before replacing them though try cleaning them with rubbing alcohol. They may just be dirty.

Michael for Model Number 11097872601

Our dryer is sometimes working properly, except the clothes are slightly damp when the cycle ends. Other times I've noticed when I open the dryer mid-cycle there is no heat. We've seen the "sensing" indicator stays lit at all times during operation, whether it is working properly or not. The wet or damp indicators do not seem to be lighting up when the clothes are wet or damp. Should I replace the moisture sensor, or could this be an issue with the heating element or control board?

Michael, as the vent can always cause improper heating, it would be recommended that the vet and ducts are cleaned of any lint as there may be a lint build up. From there, it would be recommended that the top panel is removed and the dryer started to identify if the ignitor and flame will cycle on and off during operation. If the ignitor does not glow within 30 seconds, the main control WPW10110641 would need to be tested for 120VAC at the heater relay from the red wire to ground. If there is not voltage, the main control has failed. If there is voltage, the valve coils 279834 would need to be tested. The three-terminal coil should measure 1365O from terminal 1 to terminal 2, and 560O from terminal 1 to terminal 3. The two-terminal coil should measure 1325O. If the coils test good, the igniter would need to be replaced. If the flame did ignite and would only stay on for very short periods of time, the outlet thermistor WP8577274 would need to be tested to ensure that it is operating properly and is not covered in lint. The outlet thermistor should have a reading of 10KO at room temperature. Usually, if the moisture sensor bars are failing, they cause the dryer to short cycle and this can normally be corrected by thoroughly cleaning them.

The drier recently stopped midcycle, giving a "sensing" message. I replaced both of the sensors (or electrodes) with WP3387223 components obtained from you. However, the drier continues to give the "sensing" message and continues not to function. Your youtube video shows the black connecting wire being on top and the yellow wire being on the bottom. In my drier (never previously serviced), the wires were reversed: yellow on top and black on bottom. In my first attempt, I maintained the original wire configuration. When the new sensors failed to correct issue, I reversed the colors, but this action also failed to solve problem, Please advise. Thanks in advance

Hello JP, this is not a "sensing" problem, the control board will display that message at the start of a cycle, the control board does not know the drum is not turning. You will need a multimeter and would need to access the main control board on the top left side wall under the top, at terminal P1-4 (light blue) there should be 120v at that terminal referenced to P1-2 neutral (white), if no voltage then the main control board needs to be replaced. If there is 120v then check the thermal fuse (with light blue wires) on the blower housing next, if open it would need to be replaced also check if the heater element is grounded.

Hello Ron, The problem you are describing points to a restriction in the exhaust ducting between the back of the dryer and the outside of the home. This can be as simple as a crimp in flexible ducting behind the dryer or it could be a lint build-up in the ducting from years of use.

Bill, with the moisture sensor removed, the automatic dry cycle will not operate properly. The moisture sensor bars tell the control that there is still moisture in the clothes by creating a circuit when the wet clothes touch both bars at the same time. This would cause improper heating and improper run times.
