Ken January 26, 2014 for Model Number MGDE300VW1 Hello, I have a Maytag 3000 series gas clothes dryer. This dryer blows excessive amounts of lint out the vent pipe. I replaced the lint screen but that did not help. The lint screen looks as though it is making a good seal. Is there a drum gasket that would allow lint to by-bass the lint screen? My vent line is about 15 feet long. I have to clean it about every three or four months. I half fill a paper shopping bag with lint from the vent line each time I clean it. The ground outside is always covered with lint. I've never had a dryer with this kind of problem. Thank you for any suggestions you might have.
1 Answer Hello Ken, This may surprise you but, lint is caused by the washing machine and the dryer just takes the blame. Two things cause lint besides washing old, worn out fabric. One thing is the length of the wash cycle. The newer the washer is, the stronger the agitation. This is how the units are legally advertised to get the same or better wash results than the older machines in a shorter period of time. The issue begins with habit. It is a habit for people to wash their clothes on normal instead of quick cycles. The stronger agitation tends to wear the fabric and the longer wash cycle adds to the situation. Now the second thing that causes lint is a point of controversy with all customers. It also stems from habit and also from lack of education in the detergent compounds used in todays detergents. As per the manufacturers' factory training, the cleaning is done by the chemical reaction which is activated by the water temperature. This is a strong chemical reaction. You can experience it by getting a handful of washing powder and wetting it and rubbing your hands together. The heat felt is this reaction. The manufacturer recommends to use less detergent for lightly soiled items because the reaction is geared toward the soil particles. When too much detergent is added, the excess detergent that hasn't got enough soil particles to occupy it will actually attack the fabric and cause it to fall apart, (lint creation). If you have a front load washer, the manufacturer recommends 1 tablespoon of detergent for a normally soiled load. Keep in mind that most clothes are only lightly soiled. This will change even more if you use a 3, 4, or 5, (etc) concentrated formulation. So, in a nutshell, to prevent lint formation, wash in shorter cycles and be very stingy with the detergent. Bill S January 12, 2013 for Model Number mdg 5500 aww The lint ends up around the outside of the lint trap clinging on to the dryer door. Should there be a gasket around the lint trap?
1 Answer Hello Bill, There is no type of gasket around the lint trap. You will want to check your dryer venting to make sure that it is clear. An obstructed vent will cause backpressure and cause lint to come out around the lint filter. Read More...
