The Lid Switch is an OEM part for Whirlpool washing machines. The lid switch is located beneath the washer's lid and is activated when the lid is closed. It acts as a safety feature, preventing the washer from operating when the lid is open. When the lid is closed, the lid switch engages and signals to the washer's control system that it is safe to proceed with the wash cycle.

Causes of a faulty lid switch can include wear and tear, electrical issues, or damage from excessive force or impact.

Symptoms of a bad lid switch in a washer may include:

  • Washer not starting or responding to controls
  • Washer stopping or pausing mid-cycle when the lid is opened
  • No spin or agitation during the wash cycle

This OEM Whirlpool part can also be used on Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore/Sears brand appliances.

Hello Fix It. Disconnect the power to the unit. Remove the two screws in the corners of the panel securing the panel. Next unplug the lid switch and remove the two brass colored clips securing the cabinet to the back wall using a flat blade screwdriver to pry them out. Pull on the front of the cabinet and slide the cabinet off the frame of the washer. You can now access and replace the lid switch WP3355458. Reinstall in reverse order. Hope this helps.

Hello Tony. You will put the screwdriver inside the hook that is on the right side of the part picture 3349770. This should be inside the cabinet in a cut out. Then you pry toward the back of the washer to release the clips. Hope this helps.
