The Gearcase is an OEM part for Whirlpool washing machines. This component, also known as the transmission, is responsible for converting the motor's power into the mechanical action needed to agitate and spin the washer drum. It plays a crucial role in the overall operation and efficiency of the washing machine.

Over time, the gearcase can become worn or damaged due to heavy loads, continuous use, or lack of maintenance. A faulty gearcase can severely impact the washer’s performance and may require replacement to restore proper functionality.

Symptoms of a bad gearcase include:

  • The washer not agitating or spinning
  • Loud noises or grinding sounds during operation
  • The washer leaking oil
  • The drum not turning smoothly or at all

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Hello RSchuck, this could be a faulty gearcase or clutch problem, the diagnostic mode would need to be run to determine the root cause, it is on the Tech Sheet that came with the washer and is located either in the control panel or on the inside of the front cabinet panel near the top.

Gregory for Model Number 110.26132411

My washer is approximately 3 years old. Recently it has been making a knocking noise which has progressed to premature stoppage leaving clothes wet. I found the agitator difficult to rotate so I removed the the agitator plate and didn't find anything obstructing the movement. The gear box shaft was still difficult (stiff) to turn. I intent to order a gearcase, is there anything else that could prevent the gearcase shaft from free movement and do I need any else besides the spanner wrench to ease in the gearbox replacement?

1 Answer

Gregory, The gearcase shaft should rotate with no issue and if it is not then this would most likely be an issue with the gearcase.
