Laura November 11, 2014 for Model Number EV171NYMQ04 Freezer was running all the time, but was very cold at 0 degrees, just wouldn't shut off, so we replaced the thermostat. That seemed to work, till I put some of my food back in the freezer, Now the freezer is again running all the time, but won't get colder than 16 degrees. I believe I read online that, that could mean the defrost heater is not working. Could this be my problem? Also the first time when we replaced the thermostat, I emptied the freezer and shut off and for two days there was about 3 quarts of water that came dripping out of the door. Would this also have been an indicator that the defrost heater was not working, leading to this excessive ice build up? Any help would be great. Thanks Laura
1 Answer Laura, It sounds like you may have a defrost problem with the unit. Check and see if there is any frost build up on the back wall of the freezer. If so, you will need to test the defrost heater and the defrost thermostat. They should read closed for continuity when cold. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. I will include a link at the end to assist you how to use the multi-meter if needed. If both parts are good, you will need to replace the defrost timer.
