Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Refrigerator Ice Maker Assembly (Part Number: OEM21638196)

Hello Brian, and thank you for your question. If the display is showing 1 0, 2 0, then 0 1, this is a sequence of operation indicator identifying the state of the ice maker motor (left digit) and the status of the motor (right digit). It would indicate the motor rotating clockwise until home position in progress, motor off, then harvest completed respectively.

Brian for Model Number WRF757SDHZ04

Hello. My icemaker isn't working. I ran test 57 (harvest test) and the display on the door showed numbers 1, 20 & 01. I'm not sure what those numbers mean. I could hear a noise coming from the icemaker during the test. Almost like a light clicking or grinding sound. Maybe a gear not engaging. I heard the same sound before the test. With the doors open I could hear the sound for about 5 seconds then it would stop. Then it would repeat. I'm wondering if the icemaker is damaged. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Hello Brian, and thank you for your question. IF there is a clicking and grinding sound coming from the ice maker, the motor gear has likely stripped and the ice maker W11658802 would need to be replaced if this is the case.

I just replaced the ice maker for the second time and both times had difficulty removing the water line retainer. The YouTube videos show using a flathead screwdriver and it seems to remove easily. Such was not the case for me, both times. You don't have a video covering this part, so I was wondering if you could give me some insight in how it should be removed. The second failure indicates to me that this part will be a problem until I replace the refrigerator.

Bart, Thank you for your question. There really is no easy way to get the retainer out. The way you have been doing it would be the proper way.

Tim, The sensor would be located on the icemaker itself and to test the bottom icemaker you would need to make sure that you push in on the light switch so that it can cycle. The freezer icemaker does not run through the control board so it would not likely be the control board. Check to see if it is getting water into the icemaker or if there is ice in it. For the upper icemaker if it is saying there is a thermistor issue then this will be part of the icemaker.

Project Manager, Thanks for the question!!! The correct icemaker for your freezer section is W10886939. The extra water could be a failure of the icemaker or it could be the water valve is sticking open as well.

Dusty, The ice maker does not have a plastic mold so it is unlikely that it has developed a hole. It is more likely that the water valve is not sealing and continues to drip into the ice maker overflowing it. We will send you some pages on how to access the ice maker through email.
