The Door Latch is an OEM part for Whirlpool dishwashers. It secures the dishwasher door during operation, ensuring it stays closed and maintains a tight seal to prevent water leaks. This latch also activates the safety switch, allowing the dishwasher to start its cycle only when the door is properly latched.

You should replace this door latch if it becomes worn out, damaged, or fails to secure the door properly. Common causes of a bad latch include repeated use, physical damage from forceful closing, or misalignment of the latch components.

Symptoms of a bad door latch include:

  • Dishwasher door not staying closed
  • Dishwasher not starting or stopping mid-cycle
  • Water leaking from the door during operation
  • Difficulty in latching or unlatching the door

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Note: This is the latch only and does not include the handle. For the latch with handle, order part# WPW10130695 which includes a black handle. The factory only offers the latch handle assembly in black. No other colors are available.

Robin, To open the door that is stuck in the closed position you will need to try to get ahold of the outer top corners of the door and lift up and give the door a good jerk. This should allow the door to release from the latch.

Trevor, Chances are the door latch assembly WPW10130695 is OK. The failure with the LED's and the no running situation is most likely due to a failed keypad circuit(s) and if the latch has broken away from the standoffs in the control panel, the door switches aren't being activated and the dishwasher won't operate. You'd want to start by replacing the control panel first.

Candlemaker, Replacing the control panel 6-919822 should solve both your issues. the broken retainers could allow the door latch to shift and release the switch plunger. The dishwasher "shutting down" during the cycle could also be due to a faulty circuit in the key pad circuit(s) causing the control board to "overload" and shut down.
