The Door Switch Assembly is an OEM part for Whirlpool washing machines. This assembly detects whether the washer door is open or closed, allowing the machine to start or stop the washing cycle accordingly.

Causes of a bad door switch assembly can include wear and tear from frequent use, damage from forceful closing of the door, or electrical issues. A malfunctioning switch can prevent the washer from recognizing a closed door, thus hindering the start of the wash cycle or causing it to stop unexpectedly.

Symptoms of a bad Door Switch Assembly include:

  • Washer not starting or stopping mid-cycle
  • Error codes indicating door issues
  • Washer not spinning or agitating
  • Door lock mechanism not engaging or disengaging properly

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

George A. for Model Number Kitchen Aid KHWS01PMT3

I have a front loading washer that seems to give random errors if it isn't in a good mood. Most of the time it works fine, however. Recently it has refused to lock and the FdL error appears. At first it would sometimes work by unplugging and plugging it back in but now it shows the error always. I purchased the part 8182634 Door Switch Assembly and replaced the old one. Based on some of the responses here, I felt it was a good bet. I was wrong. It has not helped at all. The error code continues. Any ideas? Thanks

George, Since you've replaced the lock assembly, you'll need to check the wiring harness between the latch assembly WP8182634 and the CCU WPW10137702 especially the connectors at the CCU. If all's Ok, check and make sure the outlet is, 120 VAC, polarized and grounded and replace the CCU.
