Bc May 24, 2022 for Model Number KEMC378KSS01 I need to replace the Magnetron, Can I access it by sliding out only the microwave as shown in this spring replacement video or do I need to remove the whole combo (ugh)? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6q9WhT4Ejko
1 Answer BC, Yes, you should be able to access the magnetron in the same way as the video but the microwave would need to be pulled out completely. Read More...
Allan February 26, 2020 for Model Number kenmore 721.80043700 microwave when installing new diode, which side of capacitor do I connect it to? If wiring color has meaning on capacitor , one wire is red one is white. I know one end is connected to chassis not sure where other end connects. Thanks for any help.
Gary December 28, 2019 for Model Number YKEMC308KM01 purchased 3 door switches and replaced 2, one on each side of the microwave but can't seem to find the location of the 3rd? The microwave works now but no heat/turntable moves an inch then stops.
1 Answer Gary, based on the diagram there would be one door switch on the left-hand side of the microwave cabin and two on the right-hand side. The switches would need to be inspected to ensure that they are being activated by the door arms properly. Read More...
Darrel July 10, 2019 for Model Number KEMC378KSS0 (Microwave/oven combo) My microwave is working, but stopped heating food. While running, it emits a strong smell like electrical odor. I research the issue and found there are a possible bad magnetron or diode. For this model, where are they located? Is there a way I can identify which one before ordering the part. Thanks.
1 Answer Darrel, We will send you a sheet of part location and testing. Be aware you will be dealing with the high voltage area on this unit so use extreme caution especially around the capacitor. It can store 2000 volts even when the unit is unplugged. Don't forget to test the thermostat on the magnetron also, it should read closed. Read More...
Yihe May 15, 2019 for Model Number KEMC308KSS04 Hello My microwave has no heat but everything else is fine. I did test on diode, HV capacitor, magnetron . All are good. here are test results. 1. diode:.applied 9V. there is 200mA current and voltage is 6.2V. if i revert the polarity of the 9V. There is no current and output. I did order a new diode, but i still not get the heat after installing the diode. 2. capacitor: i measured, the capacitance is 1.08uF which is in the range of 1.05+/- 3%. the resistance is 10Mohms which matches the specification. 3. magnetron. the resistance between terminals are 0.8ohms. Both are open to the ground. 4. HV transform. it has 5 wires. two wires on input side and three wires on output side. The resistance between two inputs are 0.5ohms. they are connected to magnetron fuse and interlock switch. Both are open to the ground. the three wires on the output side are one white and 2 oranges. the white is connected to HV capacitor alone. one orange is connected together with diode and magnetron on the other end of the capacitor. the other orange wire is connected to magnetron. The resistance between white and GND is 80ohms. The resistance between two orange is 0.5ohms and both open to the ground. After all these measurements. i could not isolate where the problem is. Could you shed some lights here? many thanks
1 Answer Yihe, you will want to test the magnetron thermal cut out WP4375079 for continuity to ensure that is has continuity. From there you will want to test the door switches W10211972 for proper operation. The door switches would need to be tested for continuity when engaged and disengaged to ensure that the contacts are opening and closing as shown on the side of the switches themselves. Read More...
Fred June 03, 2015 for Model Number KEHC309JSS05 The microwave just yesterday started making a very loud humming noise when in use. Does not matter if microwave or convection microwave. Seems to work but something is obviously wrong. About 3 years ago the magnetron was replaced, could it be this again?
1 Answer Hello Fred. You will need to check and see if the fan motor is bad and will need to be replaced on the unit. The fan motor can cause the unit to make a humming noise. Read More...
Bob May 21, 2015 for Model Number KitchenAid Microwave Model KEM308GSS0 I want to verify wiring between capacitor, magnetron and transformer. Original transformer had 2 orange and one yellow wire. Replacement has two orange and one white. Wiring: Magnetron has red wire going to one terminal on capacitor. Same terminal of capacitor also has diode and third attachment is an orange wire from transformer. Other terminal of capacitor has only the white wire from the new transformer connected to it. Magnetron has red wire from capacitor and orange wire from transformer connected to it. Please verify that one side of capacitor has only the white wire attached and the other side has orange from transformer, red from magnetometer and and diode attached. Does it matter which orange wire from transformer goes to magnetron and which goes to capacitor? Does it matter which terminal of the magnetron the orange wire from the transformer is connected to - I can't see any markings which would indicate placement.
1 Answer Bob, The model number listed is not showing as a valid model number. Please verify the model number so that we can assist properly. Please post your model number with a new question on the parts page. http://www.appliancepartspros.com/modelnumber_locator.aspx Read More...
Larry January 11, 2015 for Model Number KBHC179JSS03 Oven would only display "door." Found open line switch. Replaced and only had the clock on the display with no other functions. Replaced touchpad and have all functions now. Put a plate in the oven, pressed start. Oven growled for about half of second then the door was displayed. What could have caused the fuse to blow again? (Assuming that is what happened).
1 Answer Hello Larry, If it is the fuse blowing every time there is most likely a shorted component. You will have to open it up and test the components and make sure you test to the housing on each for a direct short to ground. This includes the high voltage transformer, the high voltage capacitor, the magnetron, and the harness. Be sure to unplug the unit and discharge the high voltage capacitor before servicing to prevent personal injury. Read More...
Jeff June 13, 2014 for Model Number KEMC378KWH0 The microwave is loud and not heating the contents. While operating it emits a strong electrical odor. I’m thinking the magnetron, but open for any suggestions.
1 Answer Jeff, The most likely cause for the unit to make a loud noise and emit the strong odor would be a bad diode. Read More...
Todd January 30, 2014 for Model Number Kemc308kss0 Microwave is working but stopped heating and smelled like rubber, Is this typically the Magnetron? Is there a strong possibility of something else you may suggest? I am handy and can take the unit out of the wall to do repairs, however for this repair would you recommend a tech or a relatively simple repair? I know that is a hard question not knowing me, but I will try anything once unless I need a specialty person. Thanks for any help you can give me. Todd
1 Answer Hello Todd. You most likely have a "high voltage" side malfunction. Transformer, diode, magnetron, Capacitor. You will need to be extremely careful if you decide to test the components with a multi meter, Very high residual voltage is present, so make sure you remove power to the microwave and short across the terminals on the capacitor. The magnetron should have a reading of less than 1 ohm resistance across the two terminals, and an "open" circuit between each terminal and chassis ground. The diode/rectifier should have a resistance reading in one direction only, no resistance, or resistance in both directions indicate a faulty diode. The primary winding on the trans former should read approximately 450 Ohms resistance, the secondary winding should read 80 ohms resistance, and the filament transformer should read 100 ohms resistance. If all the readings are proper and in range, replace the magnetron. Read More...
