This wax motor is the actuator for the dishwasher's rinse aid dispenser, releasing rinse agent at the correct time in the cycle. Replacing a weak or failed unit restores consistent rinse aid dispensing and helps minimize spotting.

  • Actuates the rinse aid dispenser by extending a plunger when energized
  • Works with the control to meter rinse aid during the final rinse
  • Failure symptoms can include rinse aid not dispensing, the level never dropping, and increased spotting/filming on dishes
  • Dispenser may remain closed with no audible actuation during the cycle
What's included: 1 wax motor actuator Installation notes:
  • Disconnect power at the breaker and shut off water before servicing
  • Remove the door panel to access the dispenser; label and disconnect wires
  • Release the old motor and install the new one in the same orientation, ensuring it seats fully
  • Run a test cycle to ensure the dispenser releases rinse aid

For Whirlpool Wax Motor (Dishwasher Rinse Aid Dispenser) (Part Number: OEM18040821)

Steve for Model Number 96 maytag jetclean portable

Hello, I don't have power to the wax motor. I had bought this new but it was stored in someones garage for years. Upon plugging it in everything worked great. Now the detergent door doesn't open. Wax motor tests fine and I have no power to it at anytime. Upon closer inspection, a good deal of the insulation was chewed off by mice at and around the timer. I replaced all bad sections but still do not have power to wax motor. The timer itself goes through all the cycles. Would it be the timer that needs to be replaced or is there some type of relay of some sorts that needs replacing?

1 Answer

Steve, You will want to check the wiring between the wax motor and the timer to make sure that the mice did not chew through any wires. If the wires checks ok then the timer would most likely be the issue.

Dec, The parts don't look the same, because they aren't the same, the wax motor WP902899 you have is for a different dispenser, and will not work in the dispenser on your dishwasher. You will need to order the dispenser assembly WP99003317. The individual parts aren't available to repair the dispenser assembly.

Lou, If the rinse aid and soap dispenser do not open then you will want to make sure that they are getting power. If they get power but do not open then the wax motors would need to be replaced.

Hi Robert. The Dual wax conversion kit. It does replace the rinse dispenser on your unit. There are 2 separate wax motors that individually open the rinse aid or the soap dispenser depending on the timer or control unit. It will aid in stopping internal leaks. Conversion kit part # 12001867. Thank You.

Pamela for Model Number MAYTAG DISHWASHER MODEL # MDB2200AWE

My rinse dispenser, that I put the Jet-dry liquid in for spot free glasses is not opening...or releasing the liquid. As a result my glasses and dishes have a spoty film on them. I tried putting white vinegar in a cup in bottom rack and running cycle empty load, was told it may unclog it, it did not. I am told I need to replace a part the dispenser or reservoir? I'm not sure what part or part # exactly that would be? Pamela

Kathy, to replace the dispenser wax motor you will first need to separate the inner (plastic) door liner from the door frame, after you turn the power off at the breaker box, you'll need to remove all the screws, you can then unplug the wire harness from the wax motor, and carefully disconnect the wax motor plunger from the slide cam assembly. There are no tools required to remove it, the wax motor is a snap in fit, just use caution, you don't want to dislodge any of the linkage, lifters, etc. Thanks and Good Luck
