This overload/relay is the compressor start device for select refrigerators. It provides the brief start assist and overload protection the compressor needs to start and run safely, helping restore consistent cooling when the original part fails.

  • Supplies the momentary start pathway for the compressor, then disengages
  • Opens on overcurrent/overheat to protect compressor windings
  • Failure may present as clicking near the compressor, warm temps, compressor not starting, or intermittent cooling
  • Visible heat damage or a rattling start device can also indicate replacement
Includes: 1 overload/relay assembly
  • Disconnect power and remove the rear lower access panel to reach the compressor area
  • Note wire locations; pull the old start device straight off the compressor pins—do not bend the terminals; transfer any harnesses
  • Reinstall the cover, restore power, and verify the compressor starts

For Whirlpool Overload/Relay (Compressor Start Device) (Part Number: OEM18030966)

KC, If the unit is not cooling at all then you will want to pull the unit out and check to make sure that the compressor is running and that the condenser fan is running. If the compressor is not running then would most likely need a new start relay. If the condenser fan is not running then check for power to the fan and if there is power then and not running then replace the fan.
