For Whirlpool Washer Snubber Ring (Part Number: OEM18017367)

Mike for Model Number PAV2300AWW

Was shaking on spin cycle, replaced snubber ring and springs twice. Cleaned bearing area on base and on ring mounting surface.. still shakes. When I push the drum assembly off center it does not return. Is this normal? It does center when spinning starts. Leveled the machine and still shakes. Removed basket and checked, just a little vibration during spin. Inspected and installed basket, shakes again, basket seemed fine no cracks or missing plastic. Can wiggle the shaft slightly and more so with the drum installed. About a tenth of an inch of movement. Back foot mechanism seems to work right. Feet drop when I lift the rear and both seem to contact the ground but fall all the way to where the base is very nearly to the floor. All the feet are missing the rubber covers. But it seems that some are not available. Any ideas?

Hello Mike, the snubber is working correctly, based on the symptom and the checks you have done this may be a warped basket problem. These plastic baskets can sometimes deform over time and use causing shaking in the spin cycle, worse with a clothes load. You can check this by having the washer in spin cycle with the top up and the top outer tub cover removed, at the beginning of spin carefully watch if the basket is wobbling around inside the outer tub instead of spinning true, if you find this is the case then unfortunately the basket is no longer available from the manufacturer.

Krystal, the 10/24 screws that are being used to help keep the spring in place when loosening the mounting screws would need to be about 1" long.

Hello Les, if the motor is not running in wash cycle for agitation after the water fill, replace the timer part WP21002232, if the motor is running but no agitation replace the transmission 35-6615. For the spin cycle problem replace the thrust bearing kit 12002213 and drive belt WP21352320.

Hello Keira, likely it is just the snubber ring is worn and needs replacing. However, also check if any oil has leaked out of the transmission and gotten onto the ring. It has to operate dry, any lubricant getting on it will cause excessive tub shaking in the spin cycle.

David, During the agitation the tub will remain in one position and if the agitator is not turning properly then this will be a issue with the agitator itself.

During spin cycle washer is more noisy and vibrates more than usual, plus there are the plastic shavings underneath. Going to replace the snubber ring and springs per the video. Question: Do I need to disconnect the water hoses from the washer before doing the repair or can I just turn the water faucet handles to the off position and keep the hoses connected? Hoses are long enough to leave connected while doing the repair but wasn't sure if water would flow out somewhere if left connected.

1 Answer

Hello GLP. There is no need to disconnect them if you do not have the lay the unit down. Just turn off the water.

Tom, The snubber ring could cause the unit to get off balance but would be more likely a spring that is causing the noise. Also check the drain pump to ensure that the pump is moving freely.
