The Actuator Spring is an OEM replacement part for the detergent dispenser system in Whirlpool dishwashers. This small spring is responsible for applying pressure and initiating the process of dispensing detergent at the proper time in the wash cycle.

Causes of a bad actuator spring soap dispenser can include fatigue from opening and closing thousands of times over the life of the dishwasher. Failure prevents proper dosing of detergent.

Symptoms of a bad actuator spring soap dispenser include:

  • Dishes not getting sufficiently clean even with detergent used
  • Wet or damp dishes after the cycle ends
  • Built-up residue or food soils still present post-wash
  • The detergent cup not opening or closing reliably

This OEM Whirlpool part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Sue, Your going to need to check or replace the control panel / keypad assembly. The prefix 665. in your model number indicates this dishwasher is produced for Sears by Whirlpool Corp. Flashing LED and no start or program indicates an issue in the keypad assembly or control board 9 usually the keypad) in most cases. If you can repost the issue with a proper model number, we'll be happy to research and supply a part number for the control panel for your dishwasher.

Al, Once you turn the power off, and separate the door liners. You're past the hardest part of the repair. We'll be sending you some more information, should the issue be more than just a broken spring. Thanks and Good Luck
