  • Disconnect power at the breaker before servicing

For Whirlpool Infinite Switch (Dual Surface Element) (Part Number: OEM18042231)

Anne for Model Number Inglis

Hi, I have an Inglis smooth top range & the DUAL heating element is staying on high, I took a picture of the switch for this element and it is solid blue with the following written on it 9761048, P1 top right, P2 S2, bottom right. The reason I question if this is the right part for my stove is because in the video your switch is white with a piece of visible metal that looks just like the other 3 remaining burner switches on my stove. My dual burner temp control switch is a solid blue box with no visible metal. Do you sell a temp control switch that will work for my stove. Thank You

Anne, to verify the parts used on your appliance we'll need the appliance model number. The video listed for the infinite switch part number WP9761048 is there to show you the general installation of infinite switches. Your part and appliance model will differ due to the make and model. Thanks.

Sue for Model Number whirlpool gr460LXLP0

Having a "hot" problem with front left burner (dual heat) - could be burner (how to open the top?) or the switch p/n 8522887. However, I don't know if wires to switch were connected properly, or how to test this switch - the tests I found all indicated for H or L, my switch has P and S...Can you tell me: 1. how to open top of stove to get to burners? 2. wiring diagram or schematic for this switch (missing from back of stove) 3. how to test if switch is bad. Thanks much.

Sue, To access the top burner assembly, when you open the oven door, on either side there will be a screw that holds the main top in place or they may be on the upper part of opening. You would take screws out and you can lift top. To check the switches, S2 goes to the inner element, 4a goes to the outer element and 2 is the common side.

Barn, You're on track, Depending on the type of infinite switch in the range, the H2 to L2 circuit cycles during the use of the burner, as the heat control, You most likely have a faulty infinite switch, if the burner is "stuck" on the high setting. Unfortunately,we are unable to research your parts needs, or wiring information, the model number you supplied is incorrect.

Hello Joe. Based on the information you provided, it sounds like the switch WP9761048 is bad and will need to be replaced. You will need to disconnect the power and remove the knob off the switch. Then remove the two screws holding the switch in place. Remove the back panel to access the switch. Unplug the wires and connect them to the correct location on the new switch. Install the new switch in reverse order. Hope this helps.
