Ted December 28, 2021 for Model Number MTW5800TW0 The water temperature setting was hot in a warm setting, it is hot in the cold setting, and it's cold in the hot setting. The water supply is not a problem.
1 Answer Ted, the temperature switch WP8578335 would need to be tested for 120VAC at the yellow wire with a red stripe during the filling cycle when it is set to cold only. If there is voltage, the water supply hoses would need to be switched around. If there is not voltage, the temperature switch would need to be changed out. Read More...
Randi April 19, 2021 for Model Number WTW5700SW0 (Whirlpool washer) Significant knocking in pipes when the washer starts filling. It happens only when on hot or warm settings. Stops after a while, but it seems like the hot water is being turned on and off very quickly. We replaced the water inlet valve a few months ago. The knocking got worse after that. Thanks for any advice.
1 Answer Randi, This sounds more like a plumbing issue rather than a problem with your machine. You might want a plumber to come out and check water pressure etc. Read More...
Barry August 28, 2020 for Model Number MTW5700TQ0 Our washer is filling with hot water when the water temp control is set to cold or cool and filing up with cold water when the water temp control is set to warm or hot. The hoses are on correctly. Would this be caused by a bad temperature switch or something else?
1 Answer Hello Barry, yes, the Automatic Temperature Control is faulty, it is part WP8578335. Read More...
Vedeizcu August 29, 2017 for Model Number MTW5770TQ0 Hello, I have a Maytag washer that will only rinse with hot water. It has 4 wash temperatures - cold, cool, warm and hot. the rinse cycle, only straight hot water is flowing - no cold water at all, regardless of the cycle setting. Any suggestions? Thank you! Natalya.
1 Answer Hello Vedeizcu, from your description the cause could be more than likely a defective temperature switch part number WP8578335. Thanks! Read More...
Logan September 03, 2014 for Model Number LAT8614AAE My 21year old top load maytag washer won't fill water or work at all. With all the great info on the net I tested the water inlet valve , the water level Sensor valve. I have concluded that the water temp valve is the suspect . My problem is I can't seem to find that part anywhere . Looking for options : maybe a whirlpool part as long as it is a 4 prong and I can use all temps . I'am ok if it isn't snap on comparable . If I can turn the selector & all 4 wires are on I don't care if it's lose . Option 2 . Failing a universal part , is it possible to hard wire the machine ( without the water temp valve)
1 Answer Logan, Unfortunately the temperature switch 208281 for your unit has been discontinued by the manufacturer with no suitable replacement available. We are unable to advise on a part that would work as we cannot compare the differences in the parts. Read More...
Art June 02, 2014 for Model Number Maytag 5807tq0 Rinse will only run hot water. When I swap electrical connections at the valve I only get cold water. Is it the temperature control switch? I have not put a meter to the output as I did not have one at the time.
1 Answer Hello Art, If the model number is MTW5807TQ0, the issue could be a defective sensor in the water valve WP3979346 or the ATC (temperature switch) WP8578335 has failed. The temperature switch is the more likely cause. Read More...

Richard October 19, 2012 for Model Number mtw5740tqo My washing machine hot/cold 4 position switch doesn't act right and it's got to where it doesn't put water in the machine on rinse. Is it the 4 position switch?
1 Answer Hello Richard, The first thing you need to do is turn the water to the machine off and remove the cold water hose from the unit. Check the screen for debris and mineral deposits. If it is clogged, clearing the screen will restore normal operation. The water inlet valve is the most obvious cause of filling issues since it has an ATC (automatic temperature control) sensor. Dave July 11, 2012 for Model Number MTW5740TQ0 Maytag Performa series washer...purchased around 2008. The tempreture selection is not working properly (sometimes). Turn it to "cool" and it comes out hot, turn it to cold and it comes out hot, turn it to hot and it comes out cold or cool. This seems to happen more frequently. What do I need to do??
1 Answer Dave, You most likely have an issue in the PC board, in the water temperature switch WP8578335, But you do want to check the wiring from the temperature switch, to the fill valve, and make sure there areno loose connections or corrosion on the terminals. Thanks Read More...
