Ted, the temperature switch WP8578335 would need to be tested for 120VAC at the yellow wire with a red stripe during the filling cycle when it is set to cold only. If there is voltage, the water supply hoses would need to be switched around. If there is not voltage, the temperature switch would need to be changed out.

Randi, This sounds more like a plumbing issue rather than a problem with your machine. You might want a plumber to come out and check water pressure etc.

Logan for Model Number LAT8614AAE

My 21year old top load maytag washer won't fill water or work at all. With all the great info on the net I tested the water inlet valve , the water level Sensor valve. I have concluded that the water temp valve is the suspect . My problem is I can't seem to find that part anywhere . Looking for options : maybe a whirlpool part as long as it is a 4 prong and I can use all temps . I'am ok if it isn't snap on comparable . If I can turn the selector & all 4 wires are on I don't care if it's lose . Option 2 . Failing a universal part , is it possible to hard wire the machine ( without the water temp valve)

Logan, Unfortunately the temperature switch 208281 for your unit has been discontinued by the manufacturer with no suitable replacement available. We are unable to advise on a part that would work as we cannot compare the differences in the parts.

Hello Art, If the model number is MTW5807TQ0, the issue could be a defective sensor in the water valve WP3979346 or the ATC (temperature switch) WP8578335 has failed. The temperature switch is the more likely cause.

Carol, This issue would most likely be caused by a faulty temperature control switch.

Hello Richard, The first thing you need to do is turn the water to the machine off and remove the cold water hose from the unit. Check the screen for debris and mineral deposits. If it is clogged, clearing the screen will restore normal operation. The water inlet valve is the most obvious cause of filling issues since it has an ATC (automatic temperature control) sensor.

Dave, You most likely have an issue in the PC board, in the water temperature switch WP8578335, But you do want to check the wiring from the temperature switch, to the fill valve, and make sure there areno loose connections or corrosion on the terminals. Thanks
