The Microwave Door Interlock Switch is an OEM part for Whirlpool microwaves. This safety device ensures that the microwave only operates when the door is securely closed. The interlock switch prevents the microwave from running with the door open, protecting users from exposure to microwave energy.

You should replace the door interlock switch if it becomes faulty or damaged. Causes of a bad switch can include wear and tear from frequent use, electrical malfunctions, or physical damage from slamming the microwave door.

Symptoms of a bad microwave door interlock switch include:

  • Microwave not starting or running intermittently
  • Microwave running with the door open
  • Error messages or safety warnings
  • The interior light not turning on or off properly

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Hi, I really need your help with my whirlpool microwave. I ordered door switches and decided to replace all three. Now the display says close the door before operating. If I open the door is turn on the microwave in normal operation. There are three switches in this microwave. One is a three prong and the other two are dual prong. Do you know the sequence of how the wires are suppose to be wired up? The three prong switch I have a picture of but its with the others. Please Help! I really appreciate your help and support. Chris

Hello Chris. You have it wired wrong. On the 3 wire primary, there is a COM and it should be black. NC should be Orange, and NO should be a white and black wire.

Hello Ronnie, Since the switches are exposed to the same current flow, if one fails, the other two will fail soon after. For this reason the manufacturer recommends to replace all three switches at the same time to prevent a repeat failure.
