The Microwave Door Switch is an OEM replacement part for Whirlpool microwaves. It is important for safety as it detects when the door is properly closed and latched before initiating cooking cycles. The switch prevents operation if the door is ajar.

Causes of a bad door switch can include wear and grime accumulation over many years of use, impact damage, or failures in the plastic actuator or electrical components.

Symptoms of a bad door switch include:

  • The microwave failing to start cooking even with the door closed and latched
  • Error messages related to the door position being displayed
  • Inability to lock or properly sense the closed door position

This genuine Whirlpool OEM replacement part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

For Whirlpool Microwave Door Switch (Part Number: OEM13289769)

Vishal Varma for Model Number WMH53520CE0

My Microwave is acting funny, many times, all panel lights and button will work , but the inside light of microwave wont turn on and till the light doesnt turn on , i cant heat anything, when I press the start button it says open and close the door but it doesnt still turn on may times. It acts likes this from few mins to hours , and then all of a sudden the inside light would turn on and everything will wok fine. Could this be the Switch issue or hat ? Please suggest. Thanks Vishal Varma

Vishal, Yes, It appears that the primary interlock door switch is failed, needs adjustment or has a loose wire connection. If the switch doesn't have a closed circuit, the control board will not see that the door is closed and display the door isn't closed, and removes power from the remainder of the circuit and the microwave will not work properly or heat.

John, You can test each switch for continuity. Look at the side of each switch. There will be lettering that say either NC= normally closed, NO = normally open, and Com which is common. If the switch reads NC and Com on the side then it will be normally open without the button being pushed and when you push the button it should read open for continuity. If the switch says NO and COM then it will be normally open for continuity when the button is not pushed and closed for continuity when it is pushed. On the switch that has 3 terminals it will have NC, NO and COM and will be closed for continuity on whichever terminal the NC is next to. One of the upper switches Primary switch will be part number W10269460 and will be the same for the bottom switch which is secondary switch. The other switch at the top will be part number W10727360 which is the monitor switch

From your site, I have learned that these microwaves have a substantial amount of trouble related to the door micro switches. Can you please tell me which switch operates the door light, and signals the control panel that the door has been operated following the completion of the cycle? The light comes on during the operation, and cycles off at the end. The display then reads "END" but when you open the door, the light does not come on, and the display does not return to the clock. Therefore, you are forced to CANCEL to use it again. I need to determine which of the switches to order and replace.

Dan, The monitor switch will active the light and tells the control board when the door is open. The part number for the switch would be W10269458.

It looks like I have the same door switch issue that others have had. The door has two switches and I can see the white plastic tab looks funny on the upper but want to go in and fix everything once. Can I have the part numbers for those switches? There are a few different ones. Second do you have the directions on how to get in the machine and replace them? I am hoping it can be done without dismounting the thing. Thanks, Matt

Matt, The unit will have to be removed from the wall to replace the door switches. The part number for the switches are for the upper right side W10269460, lower right side W10269458, and the one on the lower left side W10727360.
