The Door Switch is an OEM part for Whirlpool microwaves. It serves a critical safety function by ensuring that the microwave only operates when the door is securely closed. This switch prevents the appliance from starting if the door is open, safeguarding users from exposure to microwave radiation.

Symptoms of a bad Door Switch include:

  • Microwave not starting or intermittently stopping,
  • The microwave continuing to operate when the door is opened,
  • Unusual sounds coming from the door area when opened or closed.

Causes of door switch failure typically involve mechanical wear from regular use, accidental damage from forcefully closing or opening the door, or alignment issues causing improper contact.

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Teresa, it is likely that there is an issue with the door switches. With the microwave unplugged, the vent grill removed, and the control panel opened up, the door switches can be tested for continuity with the door open and closed to identify if they are operating as necessary. If the door switches have failed, they would need to be replaced with the interlock W11244494. If the door switches test properly, then the most likely failure is going to be with the main control W11552018.
