This mechanical dryer timer controls cycle selection and timing. Replacing a failed timer restores proper cycle advancement and automatic shutoff so your dryer runs and stops when it should. What it does:

  • Controls the on/off sequencing of the motor and heater during selected cycles
  • Advances through timed and automatic cycles
  • Turns the dryer off at the end of the cycle
  • Common symptoms: timer won't advance, dryer won't start, runs until manually turned off, stuck on one setting
What's included:
  • 1 mechanical timer assembly
Install notes:
  • Disconnect power before servicing
  • Access the control panel, remove the knob/dial, and transfer wires one-for-one from the old timer to the new timer
  • Mount the timer in the same orientation and reinstall the dial/knob
  • Run a timed-dry test to ensure proper advancement and shutoff

For Whirlpool Dryer Timer (Mechanical) (Part Number: OEM18049638)

Janell for Model Number 110.69822801

On our Kenmore Dyer when you set the timer then press the start button nothing happens until you press down/in on the timer knob. This has been getting worse and now you can not set the timer on any timer higher than 30 mins., press the start button and press down the timer knob then it engages. Dryer still drys great. We did take the panel off to make sure we did not see any loose wire or obvious burn wires or circuit boards. I spoke to James with Appliance Pro and placed an order for the timer part # AP4373420 . James said he had never hear of this problem only problems with having to hold down the START button. I had google search my problem prior to ordering the part and could only come up with the problem with having to hold down the start button as well. James felt that it must be the timer and suggested that I order the timer which I did . James suggested that I ask the question online to get a service pros option and see if you would agree that it would be the timer that needs to be replaces. Thanks

Hello Janell. Based on the information you provided, it sounds like the timer is bad and will need to be replaced in the unit. It is not common, but does happen that the contacts become damaged and only pressing a certain way turns the unit on. Timer replacement should repair the unit.

Hello Phil, When they are saying to check from BK - Black to each terminal, you would check each terminal that they suggest to check with one lead and the other to the black lead.
