The Whirlpool Defrost Timer is an OEM replacement part for Whirlpool refrigerators. The defrost timer regulates the automatic defrost cycle, which prevents ice buildup on the evaporator coils in the freezer compartment by sending a signal to the defrost heater to turn on and melt any ice buildup on the coils.

Causes of a bad defrost timer can include mechanical wear over time, electrical failures, or internal component damage. Prolonged usage and voltage spikes can also affect the timer's functionality.

Symptoms of a bad Defrost Timer include:

  • Excessive frost buildup in the freezer compartment
  • The refrigerator or freezer not maintaining the set temperatures
  • Unusual noises coming from the appliance
  • The appliance running continuously without cycling off

This OEM Whirlpool part can also be used on Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore/Sears brand appliances.

Giwatcher for Model Number 1067625463

I am so sorry for my confusion. This is a 40+ yo coldspot/kenmore 1067625463, replacing the defrost timer. My wiring harness, from top to bottom with the timer mounted on the back wall, is piggyback white at the top, next is orange, next is black, and at the bottom is pink. I do not think the pink is red, but since there is a white and a black wire, I am not clear where to place the loose black wire. The internet is filled with this question and answers, but I'm not sure it matches my wiring situation. Can you help with this? Also, if placed on the wrong terminal, 1 vs 2, what happens?

1 Answer

Hello Giwatcher, thank you for contacting APP, From the information I have the loose Black motor terminal lead wire should be on terminal 2, the only real difference should be Cumulative vs Continuous Defrost Timer.

Randall, If you have a black wire on the refrigerator harness then the black wire will go to terminal 2 and if not then it would go to terminal 1.
