Defrost timer that advances the refrigerator's defrost cycle at roughly six-hour intervals to help prevent excessive frost buildup and keep cooling consistent. Replaces a failed timer to restore regular defrost scheduling. What it does:

  • Advances the defrost cycle so the heater can melt frost from the evaporator on a timed schedule.
  • Helps prevent heavy ice buildup that can reduce airflow and cooling performance.
  • Common symptoms of a failing timer: excessive frost or ice accumulation, compressor running constantly, or inconsistent temperatures.
  • Works with mechanical defrost systems to alternate between cooling and defrost intervals.
What's included: One defrost timer. Install notes:
  • Disconnect power to the appliance before servicing to avoid electrical shock.
  • Handle connectors and wiring carefully; ensure all terminals are fully seated.
  • Mounting hardware and connector types can vary by model—retain original fasteners and note wiring positions before removal.

Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Timer, Defrost (6 Hr.) (Part Number: OEM18028053)

Dale for Model Number NNT196GZA/7A11A

Was not defrosting. The heater was cracked from the ice buildup. I replace the heater tube and thermostat. The heater works if I manually turn the timer with a screwdriver. Once the heater comes on I turn the timer and the compressor and fan run and the refrigerator cools fine. I marked the timer screw (that I turn clockwise to activate the heater) and it never moves. I assume it has to be a faulty timer that the manual screw should rotate with the timer gear or am I wrong? Thank You
