This mechanical timer controls your refrigerator's automatic defrost cycle. Replacing a worn or stuck timer restores routine defrosting to prevent frost buildup and helps the appliance maintain steady, reliable cooling. What it does:

  • Alternates power between the cooling circuit and the defrost heater at set intervals
  • Helps clear frost from the evaporator so air can circulate properly
  • Common failure symptoms: heavy frost on the back wall/evaporator, fresh-food section too warm, unit never defrosts or gets stuck in defrost, compressor running excessively
What's included:
  • 1 defrost timer
Install notes:
  • Disconnect power before servicing
  • Access the timer (often in the control housing or rear service area); note wire positions with a photo
  • Transfer wires one at a time to matching terminals and snap the timer into the bracket/original orientation
  • Restore power and monitor through a cooling/defrost cycle to normal operation

For Whirlpool Defrost Timer (Snap-In) (Part Number: OEM18064185)

However, if the timer keeps going regardless of what cycle it is set to, the push-to-start switch WPW10446920 is the likely cause of failure.
