Mitchh February 14, 2024 for Model Number GSC309PVB00 The microwave portion of my combo unit blows the microwave circuit fuse after abnormal buzzing sound for about 1 second. I have replaced the magnetron and that did not correct the problem. What component(s) would cause this? Capacitor or high voltage transformer failure?
1 Answer MitchH,Based on the information provided I would recommend testing the diode and capacitor and then the HV transformer. Read More...
Dennis January 18, 2021 for Model Number GMC275PDQ08 The microwave oven will give a vibrating noise and then the 20amp fuse will blow. I think the high voltage transformer is bad. I have disconnected the fan and the turn table motor and the fuse will still blow. Am I correct in my diagnosis of a bad transformer?
1 Answer Hello Dennis, the symptoms indicate an overload/short in the high voltage section, more likely to be a faulty high voltage diode or failed magnetron tube than the high voltage transformer. Read More...
Greg August 27, 2017 for Model Number KEMC308KSS01 Microwave not heating, but otherwise functions well. Buzzing sound when attempting to heat. A repairman said he replaced the "thermomister" last time and the unit temporarily worked. The buzzing sound gradually got longer each time we used the oven. Now it does not heat at all. The repairman said that the magnetron needs to be replaced. Is he referring to the transformer, AP6009293?
Michael February 16, 2015 for Model Number KEMC308KSS01 I replaced the control unit and touch panel because they were faulty. Everything works fine now except that the microwave does not heat. Sounds normal, there is no burnt smell (like some of the questions suggest) and there are no error indicators on the screen. The microwave door appears alright. I tried shutting it harder and lighter (if I don't close enough I get door message, when I close well there is no door message.) This is important: Once or twice it did heat just fine (pretty hot actually) but the last so many tries, it has not heated. I've read some of the other questions and it seems that I may have a dead magnetron or transformer (there are two it seems) or capacitor or line fuse? Please advise.
1 Answer Michael, The issue could certainly be caused by a faulty magnetron which you can test and make sure that it is good. You would be looking for a resistance across the terminals of <1 ohm. Also test the thermostat on the magnetron to make sure that the thermostat has continuity. The diode could also cause the unit to not operate but would normally have a vibration type of noise associated with trying to cook. Read More...
Paul Beaudry July 22, 2014 for Model Number KEMS308GBL3 We have replaced the magnatron all other components are functional except microwave heat. What are our options? What components would you suggest we check before proceeding with any other replacement?
1 Answer Paul, You will want to test the high voltage transformer, capacitor and diode to make sure that they are good. Also check the thermal fuse on the magnetron. The thermal fuse should read closed for continuity. To test the high voltage transformer you will want to pull the unit down from installation and remove the cabinet, make sure that the unit is unplugged. You will remove the leads from the terminals, Set the ohmmeter to Rx1 and touch the leads to the terminals. Primary should read less than 1 ohm, Secondary should read less than 1 ohm and filament to ground 0 ohms. You will then measure resistance on a R x 100 scale on the primary and filament for infinity reading. For the capacitor you will remove the leads from the terminals. Set the ohmmeter to a R x 1000 scale and touch the leads to the terminals. Normal will be momentarily indicates several ohms and gradually returns to infinity. Terminal to chassis should read infinity. For the diode, set the ohmmeter to the R x 1000 scale and measure forward resistance, normal will show continuity abnormal will be infinity. Measure the reverse resistance and normal will be infinity and the abnormal will show continuity. Read More...
