This smart electronic water inlet valve controls the flow of fresh water into the dishwasher during each cycle. Replacing a weak, leaking, or stuck valve restores proper fill performance and helps prevent no-fill, slow-fill, or unintended filling. What it does:

  • Opens and closes under control of the electronic board to admit water at the correct time
  • Regulates incoming water so the tub fills to the proper level for each cycle
  • Failure symptoms can include no fill or very slow filling
  • May allow water to seep into the tub when off, or leak from the valve body/fittings
What's included:
  • 1 water inlet valve assembly
Install notes:
  • Disconnect power and turn off the water supply before servicing
  • Place a towel or tray to catch residual water; depressurize the supply line
  • Move the wiring connectors one at a time to the new valve to avoid miswiring
  • Restore water and check all connections for leaks; run a fill test to verify operation
Also known as: smart valve, electronic inlet valve, dishwasher fill valve

Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Water Inlet Valve (Smart Electronic) (Part Number: OEM18047859)

Brian for Model Number KSCS25FVMS03

My kitchenaid fridge icemaker quit working a couple months ago. The water dispenser still works. Last week we came home and the entire freezer cabinet was covered in icicles, so i'm thinking water dispensed into the ice maker and overflowed. We turned it off for a day, so all lines should be thawed. It never makes the buzzing sound it used to when it worked. I'm guessing I need to replace the water valve or the ice maker sensor, which still flashes red when I put my hand in front of it. So I think it's the water valve. What do you think?

1 Answer

Sam, It would be more likely that the filter is bad or the filter housing is faulty with both the icemaker and the dispenser stopping at the same time.

Hello Greg. If the icemaker is overfilling, replace the water valve. However, if the icemaker is leaking, just replace the icemaker.

I believe that I have a frozen water line that supplies the icemaker. I replaced the icemaker and valve but it still will not make ice. I do hear the humming noise that I have heard before when the solenoid is fired opening the water valve but no water goes to the tray. How do I unfreeze this water line? Simply unplug and let it defrost (is there a simpler way b/c I do not have an extra freezer to keep my food in). Any other suggestions?? Thank you.

Hello J. Lee. You can use a hair dryer to thaw it but you must be careful not to melt anything. Otherwise unplug and let it thaw.
