Whirlpool Refrigerator Valve

• Not dispensing water

Our Kenmore (Whirlpool) refrigerator's ice maker had stopped making ice. I searched YouTube and found a repair videos for this exact problem, finding one with a similar refrigerator and the identical ice maker. I learned that the Water Inlet Valve had likely gone bad and would need to be replaced. Living in Texas it is hot all the time, even in fall, so our family loves our cold filtered water and ice. We woke up one morning with water all over the floor in the kitchen. Replaced both inlet valves, no joy. Upon further inspection, found ice maker harness extremely tight at lower freezer door hinge, clamped in place right at a pivot point. Essentially the harness is held in place and rotates with the door. 6 wires broken inside. Splice repair and ice maker now works. Most likely will have to replace harness eventually. Unless there is more slack inside the freezer door this will probably happen again. Very poor design. Read more

Replaced the water line and water supply solenoid valve (slight weeping at valve body also). This is a 3 year old whirlpool refrigerator, model WRX988SIBM00. A crack in the water line after only 3 years is a poor design. My intent was to replace the entire water line from the valve to the filter. A bit of online research and some component testing narrowed my issue down to either a faulty ice maker or a bad supply valve. I ordered a new solenoid valve set and watched the online video of the replacement process. So after emptying my freezer and fridge, removing the doors and freezer drawer, so I could mover the fridge out of its cove, I discovered after taking the panels off the rear, that my fridge is different than that shown in the video. The tech sheet test 56 said the motor wouldn't return to zero. I ordered the "Ice Maker Assy-Lp, and the Valve Assy-Water Dual". On my particular model the ice maker is in the ceiling of the refrigerator box. After removing the water filter and two screws around the drop down water filter door, the right side panel drops down by pulling it apart from 3 plastic pop-ins. Being an ex maintainence. person, I went down and turned off the water supply. Then I started to try to find the leak by removing the rear covers for the compressor and valves. The dual inlet valve was the problem. The hardest part of the repair was moving the refrigerator so we could unplug it. The whole job took about 25 minutes and that includes the time we spent emptying and reorganizing the shelves. I love AppliancePartsPros.com. I WENT ONLINE AND TRIED TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM AND ORDERED A DEFROST THERMOMETER, BEFORE IT ARRIVED I CALLED THE SERVICE/ADVICE NUMBER. SHOULD HAVE DONE THIS FIRST, SPOKE WITH BRITTANY AND KEITH ON SEPARATE OCCASIONS, THEY THOUGHT IT WAS A WATER INLET VALVE, I ORDERED ONE, AND WITH KEITHS HELP I INSTALLED IT WITH HIM ON THE PHONE.
