The Inlet Valve is an OEM part for Whirlpool washing machines. This valve is critical for controlling the flow of water into the washing machine, ensuring that the right amount of water is supplied for various washing cycles. It consists of solenoids that open and close to allow hot and cold water to enter the wash tub at the appropriate times, according to the selected wash settings.

Symptoms of a failing Inlet Valve include:

  • The washing machine not filling with water at the start of a cycle
  • Water entering the machine slowly or intermittently
  • The machine overfilling or underfilling
  • Unusual noises coming from the valve area during the filling stage
  • Leakage around the valve

Causes of a bad inlet valve can include mineral deposits from hard water which can clog or block the valve, wear and tear on the solenoids over time leading to failure to open or close properly, and electrical failures that affect the operation of the solenoids.

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

For Whirlpool Inlet Valve (Part Number: OEM18035151)

Cathy for Model Number GHW9400PL0

My washer and dryer are on a partially walled, partially screened porch in central Texas, up against the wall of the house. We get a handful of freezing temperatures every winter, so I insulate between the w/d and the wall of the house (plastered, with lots of earthen mass). That has worked fine for 16 years, but last year's winter storm got us down to -1°F, stayed below freezing for over a week, and the inlet valve stopped working. Fair enough, that was asking a lot. I replaced it, but the replacement part broke after only 11 months, and a much lighter freeze (just overnight, around 23°F, which happens every year and hasn't been a problem before). No other hoses or valves had freeze damage, and I don't see any visible cracking on the inlet valve; will freezing temperatures damage the solenoids? Are aftermarket parts just not as robust? (PS: I greatly appreciate your parts, and your very helpful videos; who knew I could do this myself?!! And yes, I'm looking at ways to better winterize the porch :-) )

Cathy, if the washer valve reached temperatures lower than 33°F, it is very likely that water froze in the valve and damaged the valve WP8181694.

Hello John. Possible Causes / Procedure 1. Unplug washer or disconnect power. 2. Check wire harness connections to the MCU, the motor, and Central Control Unit (CCU). 3. Check the drive system for any worn or failed components. 4. Plug in washer or reconnect power. 5. Verify CCU operation by running a Diagnostic test or any cycle. 6. Check the MCU by looking for operations of the drive motor. 7. Check the drive motor for powered rotations. 8. Check that the serial harness at the MCU is not mounted upside down. The wires should be to the left when facing the MCU connectors.

Nestor, This issue would be caused by a long drain. You will want to check the drain pump for clogs in the filter area and check for damage to the impeller of the motor. Check the pressure hose to make sure that the hose is not clogged. If these check ok then the issue will be the main control board.

Hello Frank, The water inlet valve will be the first suspect but without the model number from the units' I.D. tag, this is just a general diagnosis.

Rose, There should be two "screens" in each fill hose that need to be checked and cleaned if clogged with sediment. One should be in the end of the fill hose, where it attaches to the faucet 285452A screen washer. When you remove the fill hose from the fill valve, there is a screen located in the inlet opening. Both screens can be carefully removed with a small flat blade screwdriver, cleaned and reinserted into the hose and fill valve.

Hello Heather. The model number you provided uses [AP3128876] for the water valve. The terminals pull off the spades on the unit valve. If they are stuck, you may need to pry them with a straight screwdriver.
