The Dishwasher Vent Assembly is an OEM part for Whirlpool dishwashers. Located at the top corner of the dishwasher, it contains openings to expel heat and excess moisture during cycles. Venting helps maintain proper temperature levels inside cabinetry and prevents build-up that could damage surrounding countertops or flooring over time.

Causes of vent assembly failure include clogs from detergent residue or mineral deposits collecting in ventilation slots. Over-zealous cleaning may also damage vent surfaces reducing air flow.

Symptoms of a restricted vent include:

  • Puddles or leaks around the dishwasher seal
  • Slow or incomplete drying at the end of cycles
  • Steam leaving through partially closed doors

This is a genuine Whirlpool OEM replacement, this part is also compatible with Maytag, Jenn-Air, and some KitchenAid models.

Ron, If the vent assembly did not solve the issue (make sure the vent is functioning) you might check the door gasket to make sure it is sealing properly as well.

Jim, This issue would most likely be caused by a relay in the control board that is stuck keeping the fan on continuously. The control board would need to be replaced for this issue.

John, It most likely is condensation, Check to make sure the water isn't too hot. Check the upper spray arm/nozzle to make sure it moves properly and isn't spraying the water towards the vent cover at the top of the inner door panel, and the detergent and rinse aid isn't "foaming" up. If you remove the lower kick plate panel, you should find the tech data sheet attached to the back of the panel. You can review any error codes logged by the eeprom, and can operate all the components of the dishwasher.

Bad Karma for Model Number Kenmore Elite 12783

We've been experiencing problems for a year with this vent part. It has been replaced once by Sears. It has failed again, allowing steam to exit the side of the door and ruin the adjacent cabinet. It seems either the damper is malfunctioning, the fan, or both. Can you tell me the purpose of the gap in the assembly by the fan? Does the fan create enough pressure to keep the steam from entering the door panel cavity? I've already replaced my circuit panel as I think the steam was damaging it. Does this include the o-ring gasket?

Hello Michael. The best way is to watch it during the drying cycle and see if it does. If not, then you will need to replace the control board. You also need to check all the seals. One may be bad and allowing steam into the door.
