Barry B Gainsville , FL March 16, 2015 Appliance: Samsung Refrigerator RF267AEPN/XAA-0000 Freezing up with ice coming through the openings in the inside back panel Replaced the inside back panel which comes with a new fan. Seems the old fan had stopped working due to ice which burned it out. The drain tube was blocked and ice built up on the bottom plate. Using a basting tube from Walmart and hot water I thawed out the ice in the tube. The basting tube became much like a toilet plunger and cleared the line rapidly. Nothing else worked as fast. I then bought a one foot long piece of thin solid copper wire from Lowes and stripped the insulation off. I wrapped a couple of inches around the heating element and inserted about 1 1/2" down the drain tube. After a week of use there is no more ice build up. I also replaced the sensor. All total this cost about $104 which was about $200 in savings from having a repairman fix it. I had spent over four hours previously trying to fix it by defrosting and puring hot water from a cup. The real problem was the drain tube and a bad fan. However the DA97-07190G assembly cover had been redesigned slightly from my original four years old one. The basting tube and new part took less than two hours to fix it. Maybe an hour and a half total. Stephen B Hartford City , IN September 05, 2015 Appliance: Samsung Refrigerator RF263AEBP/XAA Samsung refrigerator was icing up at the evaporator cover and ductwork I purchased the service manual from Samsung (thumb drive or CD, took a few days in the mail). It was handy for doing some self tests and operations, very similar to codes and tests on cars. Ultimately every part tested okay. I broke the evap. cover because it was still frozen when I pried it off. After a complete thaw it seemed that somehow the evap. drain was restricted so water built up and refroze until it was touching the evap. fan blades, which we could hear and tipped us off to a problem. Before reassembly I wrapped a 14 gauge copper wire around the defrost heater element a few times and then snaked it down the evap. drain several inches to prevent drainage from freezing and plugging the drain. Its been a couple weeks and so far so good. Read More... 16 People found this story helpful Do-It-Yourself Rating: Repair Time Estimate: 30-60 minutes Tools: Nut Drivers, Screwdrivers
