Daniel W Bel Air , MD January 20, 2017 Appliance: Samsung Refrigerator RSG257AABP/XAA Samsung refrigerator (model rsg257aabp/xaa) not making ice ice maker making clicking sounds Refrigerator was purchased in 2013 and now on its third ice maker. Original ice maker performed poorly and was replaced in about a year after buying the refrigerator. 2nd ice maker did a good job making ice but lasted about a year when it started making clicking sounds. The clicking sounds came from the cube ejection fingers trying to eject cubes before they were ready and cubes were undersize. Originally thought that the heater that releases the cubes was bad so ordered new ice maker. New ice maker had same problem. At this point called in a repair guy who thought the problem was the ice maker water valve. He replaced the valve but still no ice or at best occasional small ice cubes. At this point the only thing left to replace was the refrigerator main control board. The new board for this refrigerator had many more components on it (left hand side of the board) and one less connector. Received the board and replaced it, fairly simple. Just remove two screws on the cover panel on the back side top corner, remove all the wire connectors, and push up on the two plastic latches that hold the board end at the top. Installed the new board, replaced all the connectors except the small connector in the lower left hand corner of the board where there is now a heat sink. So far it doesn't seem that the refrigerator uses that connector and is running correctly. The last think I had to do was to use parts from the first ice maker (two gears on the motor that operate the ice cube ejection fingers) to replace broken gears in the third ice maker. It appears that when the control board fails it can damage the ice maker. Ice maker is now operating and producing a good amount of ice. To replace the board was about a 10 minute job and if you catch this soon enough you might not have to replace the ice maker too. Replacing the gears in the ice maker and changing out the ice maker took about an hour.
