The problem was that the motor coupler & shaft had a tiny bit of rust at their union. With the weight of the ice bin it rusted in the lowest position. This didn't allow the motor coupler to float on the shaft. There is a spring inside the shaft that pushes up on the motor coupler keeping it engaged in the ice bin coupler above. I did some research online to pinpoint what the clicking noise was - discovered it was the relay switch. Very simple repair - after I removed the back panel on fridge I located the relay mounted on side of the compressor. It came off easily. This is a very easy fix. The only trick is that you must also remove the top and bottom trim parts above and below the handle (respectively) to be able to replace the handle, as those pieces cover the screws that attach the handle to the door panel.
