Researched this kenmore washer on-line and found the problem to be the lid switch. Saw a diagram on how to jump this switch by connecting a wire to both outside wires on the harness and voila! It worked! This is not a fix but it allowed me to finish the load of unwashed clothes and told me which part was bad (do not run washer jumped like this.......fire hazard!) The timer dial allows manual selection of wash cycle duration and is located on the washer's control panel. Replace when the dial won't turn, skips settings, or the washer doesn't advance through cycles properly.
Part number 3949428 dial from appliance pros came in 2 days. Needed in three days as I was traveling to my vacation home.
