Fixing the problem was quite simple. First, I removed the lid assembly (thanks to the diagrams supplied by AppliancePartsPros.com!). Getting the back two screws out was very difficult because I couldn't see them from the front and I could not move the unit out of the enclosed space. Fixes grinding noise or basket won't spin issues by disengaging the brake during spin cycles. Restores smooth operation when cam wears out or breaks.
First I looked at the many you tube vids, and there are many. appliance parts pros pretty much shows you how to deal with the parts. I changed the brake shoes and the clutch assembly which also comes with the driver cam. I also changed the metal brake operating cam. This is a small tube of silicone-based gasket sealer used to bond and seal gaskets during washer repairs. It creates a watertight seal between mating surfaces to prevent leaks around tub components or pump housings. I ordered the part and replaced it myself. Saved me having to pay a repairman. I looked up my washer by model number online and was able to find a diagram of my machine. I simply used the diagram to know what parts went into position on my machine. Removed the knobs then, a few screws and and the wiring connector. Washer won't start or stops mid-cycle? A damaged lid switch shield can expose wiring to moisture, causing safety interlock failures. Simple fix.
Spin tube assembly with drive spacer, bearing, and shaft seals. Replace if washer leaks from bottom or basket doesn't spin properly. Verify fit.
