The function of a ball detent is to temporarily keep two parts in place relative to one another, as one or both of the parts rotate.A ball detent might have to be replaced in the event that it suffers damage over time or is lost or misplaced. It is possible for ball detents to fall out of their spot, meaning that the parts that it ordinarily holds in place will not be able to rotate properly. Additionally, a ball detent might have to be replaced if there is material deterioration.
