The start button had been tricky to use. You had to push it in just a certain way to get the dryer to start. Eventually it was non-responsive. This is a shift actuator motor that controls the clutch mechanism in the washer's transmission. It engages and disengages the clutch to allow the washer to transition between agitation and spin cycles. Replaced motor, I feel though that the spring tension is too high on the actuating lever, causing the small cable to stretch and not fully engage the clutch star, causing the tub to jump, and the sound of grinding due to not fully engaging the drive star. This has not happened since replacement of the motor, but will surely happen again I feel, as cable stretches.
